ROLROLROL

Maybe in an attempt to upset music journalists around the world, ROLROLROL’s first album for cult electronic label Ilian Tape was simply titled music ‘MUSIC’. For their second LP, the electronic jazz duo added surrealism to simplicity: they called it ‘DINNER’.

Formed by Brainfeeder (Flying Lotus’ label) acolyte Jameszoo and fellow Dutchman Niels Broo, they apply the same playful and cheeky approach to their music. Using a battery of modular synthesisers, keyboards and other gear, they stretch and twist the sounds of jazz, funk and electronica into odd, squishy forms, like a pair of toddlers let loose on a bucket of playdough.

The result is the kind of unserious music that only extremely serious musicians are capable of making. If you like J-Dilla style beat science, the kind of arch 80s synth pop made by the likes of Yello and overblown electronic funk, this should be right up your alley.
