Berlin Atonal

Berlin Atonal is one of the most influential festivals for sonic and visual art internationally. Renowned as a leading platform in the field of experimental music and art, the festival has a sharp focus on presenting new work and has hosted over 900 world premiers and commissions – making it one of the leading platforms in the field.

Since its relaunch in 2013, Atonal has become one of the most visible German and international independent institutions that focuses on the intersection between art and music, evidenced in its most recent 2023 festival and exhibition project – where the Berliner Zeitung claimed: “The exhibition and the festival in general will go down in history.” The festival has also been involved in various high profile collaborations co-productions – including The Long Now (in partnership with Berliner Festspiele – 2015 – 2020), Max Richter’s overnight SLEEP project (2017 – 2020) Dark Mofo/Laterne (in partnership with MONA – Museum of Old and New Art Tasmania 2017 – Present) and Parallax (in partnership with the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester).

The festival is a project of Outer, a curatorial group, production company and management, and booking agency. Outer is known for creating, representing and developing projects and individual artists in advanced music, with artists that include both internationally established and emerging talents. Atonal has seen editions and projects in over 15 countries including in the UK, the US, Australia, Japan, Georgia, France and China among others.
