Felipe Maia

Felipe Maia is a Brazilian journalist, ethnomusicologist, and DJ. His work explores the intersections of popular music, digital technologies, and the Global South, and his current research as a PhD candidate (Université Paris Nanterre) focuses on the phenomenon of mobile Brazilian sound systems known as paredões. He is a resident DJ on Rinse France with BAÏLE, a radio show dedicated to showcasing baile funk as a club music genre, and has
performed on stages in Argentina, Senegal, France, the UK, Portugal, Spain, and Brazil.

Additionally, he has curated several projects centered on baile funk and Latin American electronic music with NTS, Boiler Room, and Spotify, including the NTS album Funk.BR – São Paulo.

Co-curated with Berlin Atonal for the talk ‘Are We Discussing More Electronic Music Than Experiencing It In 2025?‘ for Nuits sonores Lab 2025.
